Kicking off Education Week with PJs, Pancakes & Sausages

Amazing days begin with a healthy breakfast and a good book!  Thank you to the Education Week committee, who organized a delicious breakfast for all RBES students and staff.  We enjoyed having breakfast together and then reading our favourite stories.

Library Lion read by Dorothy!
We have only 4 library classes left, so be sure to return books every Wednesday (or before) so your child is able to enjoy new books for the final few classes.

PD Day Tomorrow!

In our poetry class, students created shape poems today.  It is tricky to create these poems by hand, but students did an amazing job creating today. They are excited to continue on their digital versions next week!

In Math, students completed an assessment on Addition to 100 with regrouping. They were encouraged to solve each equation 3 ways: stack, draw & open number line.

Miss Paige joined us again for Kimochis, today she brought in all 5 that we've met! Students reviewed the characteristics of each Kimochi and then were asked to choose, and explain, which one was MOST like them!. I had to agree with their choices and was impressed by their explanations of WHY they chose that Kimochi.

We are near the end of our magnet unit. Ask your child what, "Opposites Attract & Likes Repel" mean.

Thank you, Mrs. Kuchirka, for providing the ingredients for April's Tasty Tuesday! They were a hit! The only tricky part, for them, was to have to wait to eat it!

Monday 16 April 2018

It's DRUM FIT WEEK!  Students were getting in touch with their inner drummer this week during gym.  It's so much fun to move to the music!

Former Les Bucherons performer, Ian Porteous, was at RBES today to share with us the Cultural Wheel presentation. The Cultural Wheel is made up of four quadrants, folklore, community, constructivism and celebration; his presentation today explored all of these quadrants, as students participated in the journey through story, music and dance.

Today we met another Kimochi character, Cat!

Image result for cat kimochiCAT knows what she wants, when she wants it and why. Cat can be very persuasive. When she makes up her mind there is no stopping her. When the Kimochis need a leader, they can always count on Cat. She loves to be in charge but can sometimes be a bit bossy. Cat lives in a Cherry Blossom Tree. She likes to keep her house tidy and loves to host tea parties. Cat’s favorite number is 10, her favorite color is purple, and she loves to snack on toasted almond cookies and warm milk.
Cat helps kids learn how to:
  • Apologize and forgive
  • Make safe, wise, kind choices
  • Manage cranky feelings

This evening was a proud moment at RBES.  Students and staff have worked hard in preparation for the RBES Celebration of the Arts Gala and tonight it all came together.  Thank you to the parents who came and enjoyed this special event with us.

Today we met Cloud.

CLOUD is a bit unpredictable. One day he is happy, the next he is angry, and the next day—who knows, maybe sad or even happy again. Cloud lives in the big sky and loves to travel across the treetops paying visits to all his friends. Cloud’s favorite number is 9. His favorite color is gray, because there are so many different shades of it—just like his personality. Cloud loves butterscotch pudding and green tea. Cloud doesn’t play an instrument, but he is a great audience!
Cloud helps kids learn how to:
  • Regulate their tone of voice, body language, words, and actions
  • Feel mad without being mean

Wednesday 4 April 2018

We have started the Magnetism unit in Science. Students had a chance for some free exploration with 5 different kinds of magnets. Ask them if they can remember what they are!

In Language Arts, we began our Poetry Unit, beginning with a poem written using our 5 senses!

In Math, students are learning how to regroup in addition, using the algorithm method. In Grade 2, we also call it stacking. We practiced several questions today, give them this example to solve for you!
