Bike Safety Week

PA great way to end Bike Safety Week, with a Bike Rodeo in the arena... Thank you, Mrs. Murray for stopping in!
Students enjoyed getting their hands wet, carving and sanding their Soapastone Art! They were amazed at its  transformation of color and texture!

Wednesday 25 May 2016

Today the RBES Health Nurse visited our classroom to continue the disc more about Bike Safety! She came in and talked to us about the benefits of helmets and what can happen to our brain if we do not wear a helmet.  She also discussed the legal responsibility for students to to wear a helmet and ride with an adult until they are 9 years old.
The egg in this experiment was safe, when dropped, because of the helmet it was 'wearing'.

And they're off...

Today marked the beginning of Bike Safety Week.  Student helmets were checked by members of the Devon Bike Club and recommendations were made regarding appropriate fit. We spent our time practicing starting and stopping as we pedaled our way around the field.

Today we read a story, My Mouth is a Volcano.
Students learned four steps to help them break the habit of interrupting. This simple strategy can be reinforced both at home and school.
1. Bite down hard.
2. Breathe the words out through your nose.
3. When the time is right, breathe the words back in through your mouth.
4. Share your words with another person.

Reminders:
- Track and Field online forms and pink paper forms are due.
- RBES Raptor Spirit-wear orders are due tomorrow, information is available HERE.
- Paint Night is tomorrow, tickets are still available online HERE.
- Word Sort test is tomorrow.

Thank you!
