Trial #1

Today, Captains and their crews tested their boats: Did it float? Did it propel? Did it carry a load?
After all of the boats were tested, students did a Gallery Walk, giving feedback and suggestions to other Boat Crew Members. Tomorrow, students will make modifications to their boats for Trial #2.

Miquelon Lake Bugology

What an amazing day of learning! The day's highlights include: observing an ant colony moving their larva for protection, tadpoles in the part of their life cycle where two front legs had emerged and the found treasure of many bloodsuckers!! Thank you to our fabulous parent volunteers for a wonderful day!!

Don't forget.... Swimming lessons beginfirst thing Monday morning!!
During our demonstration in Science today, students observed three possible ways to propel their boat (sail, paddle and jet). The creation of Boat Blueprints have begun and students are eager to get building tomorrow!

Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers at RBES!

Monday 13 June 2016

Today in science, we talked about how sinking and floating. We learned that a ball of clay sinks, but if we change it's shape, then we can make it float and carry a load!  Ask your child how many pennies their boat was able to carry.

It was a beautiful day for swimming!  Students enjoyed the lessons and I was amazed how quickly they caught on to all of the tasks placed before them.  A giant shout out to the Devon Pool staff, they did a phenomenal job today.  Please remember to send your child in his/her swimsuit again tomorrow and send a large towel in their backpack.

Ahoy, Mate!

Today we began our Buoyancy and Boats unit.  The 18 2C Fishermen were called in for a town of Meteghan meeting, where they learned about a horrible winter storm that tragically destroyed all of the boats in the harbor.  Since fishing is their livelihood, their challenge over the next two weeks will be to work together to create new boats that will: float, carry a load and propel.
Thank you to all of the parents who sent their recycling to the school!  We can't wait to begin building next week!
Reminders:
- Word sort test is tomorrow.
- Return home reading books tomorrow.
- Please complete the swimming permission and level forms.
- Check your email for important information about the Field Trip on Friday.
- School Start orders for school supplies are due June 14.
