HaPpY HaLLoWeEN!

Thank you to our GENEROUS who provided the delicous snacks, pumpkins & treats for our class!  Also, huge thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Wright for helping out with the pumpkin carvings! 

Students had a spooktacular time playing Halloween Games on the Chromebooks,  a few games of BINGO, snacking, coloring, Writing Around The School and completing a Word Search! Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

RBES Costume Parade @ 9 am tomorrow!

Our PE focus this week is squats.  We ead the story Big Pumpkin and during the story, we turned our bodies into pumpkins, ghosts, witches and vampires; a lot of squats were done getting into pumpkin position during the story. 

In Math today, student extended and created patterns where one or two attributes changed. 

Notes for tomorrow:
- Snack parents, please drop your snack at the office in the morning.
- Wear costumes to school.
- RBES Costume Parade 9am.
- Class party in the afternoon.

Students learned the term attribute today in Math.  They were faced with a challenge of identifying which attributes (shape, size, colour, direction or thickness) were changing in a pattern.

Our focus for the month of November will be Social Studies and the community of Meteghan. Students will be guided through a month long exploration of this east coast Acadian community.  If you have visited Meteghan or have Acadian artifacts, please reach out via email, we would love for you to share them with us!!

In math students continued their exploration of repeating patterns and identifying pattern core.  Using a variety of manipulativse, they created a number of repeating patterns.  

We dove into our third Math Unit today, Patterns! We learned the math words: pattern, core and term today.  Ask your child to make a pattern at home this evening using forks and spoons.  Then ask him/her to identify the core (the part that repeats).

In Social Studies, we began our investigation into What Is A Community? A community is a place where people live together, work together, and play together. Living in a community means cooperating with each other. This means working together, respecting the rights of others and following the rules of the community. We discussed that both Devon and 2C are communities that we are all part of.

Students have finished the planning stages of their Monster In A Jar writing! I am looking forward to reading and sharing of their final drafts!

In Daily 5, we launched word work.  This activity provides "students an opportunity to experiment with spelling patterns, memorize high-frequency words, and develop a genuine curiosity for and interest in new and unique words. By playing with words, word patterns, word families, prefixes, suffixes, and so on, students hone their knowledge of words and increase their speaking and writing skills." (Daily 5 website)

Students began a week-long writing project called, Monster in a Jar.  Yesterday they trapped their monsters - some are scary, while others are cuddly. Today they began to plan their writing, answering questions to guide their writing and then turning their answers into sentences.

In the afternoon, we were treated to an Eatrh Ranger Experience!  There are so many ways that we can help the Earth; become an Earth Ranger today!  
 

Students used their knowledge about materials which absorb or repel liquids to solve a science problem.  Students were asked to choose a material that would make a perfect raincoat.  Ask your child what material they would use and why.

In Math, students learned to write ordinal numbers and used ordinal numbers to talk about position.
