In Math today, students recognized that when we measured length, it is important to use units that are the same!

Ask your child why the lengths of these slips of paper are different!

In Writer's Workshop today, students designed a robot to base their writing on. I'm looking forward to reading their detailed paragraphs!

Last week, we began Unit 4 - Measurement.  Click HERE for a parent letter that describes some ways that you can support your child at home while we work through this unit.  Today, students used unifix cubes to measure the length of various pencils.



In Social Studies, we dove into what Daily Life might look like for a child who lives Meteghan.  Students in Meteghan learn both the English and French languages in school. It was fun to learn a few short phrases and the numbers to ten in French.

In Social Studies, students compared the communities of Meteghan and Devon.  We collaborated to create a Venn Diagram which identified both the differences and similarities between the two communities.  We also talked about the Early Days in Meteghan, specifically the first people (Mi'kmaq) and the settlers (Acadians and British).  

In Art, students created a beautiful Remembrance Day poppy.  I encourage all of our families to attend the RBES Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday at 10:45 am.  

In Math students learned four strategies for predicting the next term.  1) Guessing, 2) Using the last term in the picture, 3) Using the length of the core to estimate and 4) The most likely term.  They learned that both guessing and the most likely term are not overly effective.   They did an amazing job of using graph paper to create, predict and extend to check their answer. 

Up up and away!  Today we flew to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, special thank you to Air Canada for the safe flight.  Since Yarmouth was not our final destination, students boarded a bus and made the 38 kilometre drive to Meteghan.  Students took a look through TripAdvisor and realized that there are not many places for visitors to stay chose to stay at the Anchor Inn Bed and Breakfast.  We are looking forward to learning about this unique Canadian Community!

During their Math lesson, students created and described repeating patterns in different ways.  Take a look in their agenda, where they converted a shape pattern into a letter pattern.

This month, all RBES students are hard at work preparing for their Christmas Concerts.  Please mark your calendars: Tuesday, December 4 - Grade 1-2 - 1:10 pm and 6:30 pm

Students are bringing home a photo of their Christmas Card artwork as well as order form.  Please consider supporting this RBES Parent Council fundraiser.  

Our bags are packed! In Social Studies, students compared the weather in Meteghan to the weather in Devon. Meteghan's temperature is warmer than Devon's, and there isn't any snow! Students packed pants, long sleeved shirts, runners and hoodies for their trip. We are "catching" our plane to Meteghan tomorrow!

During their Math lesson, students described  repeating patterns which had either one or two attributes changing.

It was an exciting day, because the students "passports" arrived and  we will all be able to catch the "plane" to Meteghan, which is departing on Tuesday!
